Operate or tend machines to bleach, shrink, wash, dye, or finish textiles or synthetic or glass fibers. [SOC] Processes in textile factories are increasingly enclosed and mechanized. Dyes are the most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis in the textile industry. Modern durable press fabics release little formaldehyde and rarely cause skin disease. [Marks, p. 347-50] Other potential causes of allergic contact dermatitis include chromates, nickel, epoxy resins, rubber chemicals, and p-phenylene diamine.
