fasciculations

Fasciculations are visible as fine, irregular twitching of muscle fibers under the skin. They are a sign of nerve injury, but are sometimes observed in normal muscles, e.g., the calf muscles in the elderly. [Merck Manual, p. 1751] Fasciculations appear as ripples under the skin. They are a sign of severe poisoning by military nerve agents. [Jane, p. 90]
